SPRING EDITION CONTINUES RECOVERY OF OLD MILITARY ARSENAL
Who knows how many residents and visitors of Borgo Dora wondered what it would have made of that building, long abandoned, along the Channel Molassi entrance to the courtyard of the Hammer? Today the building, which housed the old upholstery the Military has been completely renovated and upgraded, we have asked the Arch. Antonio Tondo, head of the project on behalf of Sermig, to answer a few questions.
What activities or host is already taking the building Channel Molassi restored?
The renovation of the upholstery of the old naval dockyards is completed. Home as early as October, in the first two floors, the School for Craftsmen Restorers Maria Luisa Rossi, art school recognized by the Piedmont Region as the Regional Training Agency. You log on approximately 70 young graduates to learn the ancient craft of art restoration. Ours is a school of excellence, in a neighborhood that has a tradition of trade but also crafts.
The second floor of the building by September 2010, will host a kindergarten of 75 seats (15 and 60 infants weaned). The decision to build a nursery is gained following the request the Councillor Educational System of the City of Turin, which has allowed the realization of the nest on the upper floors providing them set up a roof garden. This is a private nursery arrangement with the City of Turin. "The nest of Dialogue" to respond to the needs of Italian and foreign families, promoting dialogue and integration starting from the education of children. The management will be in collaboration with the "Free For All Co-scs" already expert in the field.
How long Sermig working on this project?
The renovation of the former Saddle began in late 2007.
The architectural design is not trivial, a few words about this choice.
Former Saddler was a beautiful late nineteenth century, two-storey load-bearing masonry with bricks, and plastered on the horizon with low arches vaults. The expansion plans of two initiated by the Fire Department included an increase of building height with the incorporation of seniority in a glass and iron structure with gabled roof in corrugated iron sheet. Our project therefore had to adapt to the metal structures are already installed and the existing buildings. With the architects George and Eraldo Comoglio therefore we sought a solution that would put emphasis on the source architecture of the building. The whole structure was enveloped in a "skin" perforated plate in order to homogenize all forms minimal as possible so as not to interfere with the design of the nearby building - Building Aloisio - and with the buildings in the form of sheds the late nineteenth century industrial across the street. We then chose to continue to adopt alternative energy sources with the arrangement of solar panels on roofs.
What has been invested? you have any financial partners?
The restructuring has cost approximately € 7 million. We have received 500,000 and 500,000 by the Compagnia San Paolo by the Piedmont Region. All the rest came from donations from ordinary people, young people, of individuals from all over Italy.
What are the timing of operation?
everything will be in operation before the summer, including housing on the top floor, where he lived a group of young people who chose Arsenal as home and work actively in the management of services that take place within the ' ex Saddlery.
How do you evaluate the impact that these new activities will have on the neighborhood? These two services
dell'Ospiteria stand alongside the Arsenal of Peace opened in 2006. With these renovations we believe that it contributed as depends on us, the redevelopment of the area. We have always tried to respect the old and to enhance it so that those who live, people who live in Borgo Dora and those who visit this corner of Turin, are harmonious spaces, clean, beautiful to see and live.
